Personal Profile

Zhao Meng, Doctor of Philosophy, is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the Zhongshan School of Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University. He was awarded the National Science Fund for DistinguiHed Young Scholars (2023), the National Excellent Youth Science Fund (2018), and was selected as a young talent under the "Overseas High-Level Talents" Program by the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee (2016). He is also the recipient of the 2024 China Stem Cell Research Innovation Scientist Award.

He serves as a member of the Committee on Hematopoietic Physiology of the Chinese Physiological Society, the vice-chairman of the Youth Committee of the Committee on Experimental Hematology of the Chinese Pathophysiological Society, a member of the Committee on Basic and Translational Medicine of the Chinese Geriatrics Society, and a member of the Youth Committee of the Chinese Pathophysiological Society.

Zhao Meng graduated from Shandong University in 2002 with a Bachelor of Medicine degree. In 2009, He obtained her Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Institute of Health Sciences, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences/Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, under the supervision of Academician Chen Guoqiang of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. Since 2010, He has been conducting postdoctoral research at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research in the United States, working with the renowned Chinese stem cell expert Professor Linheng Li (Li Lingheng). In 2016, He was introduced back to China as an urgently needed talent under the "Hundred Talents Program" of Sun Yat-sen University and has been working there ever since.

He is mainly engaged in research on the regulatory mechanisms of hematopoietic stem cell aging and leukemia stem cell drug resistance, as well as tumor immunotherapy. In recent years, as a corresponding author, He has publiHed multiple papers in academic journals such as Nat Cell Biol (2 papers), Cell Stem Cell, Blood (3 papers), JEM, eLife, Adv Sci, and JHO, with a total citation count of over 3,000 times. Her research achievements were consecutively selected as one of the Top Ten Research Progresses in Hematology in China in 2022 and 2023, and He received the 2024 China Stem Cell Research Innovation Scientist Award. He has applied for 8 domestic patents (4 approved) and 5 international patents (2 approved) related to hematopoietic microenvironment repair and mesenchymal stem cells. He has also written 2 monographs on hematopoietic stem cells and publiHed review articles in journals such as Blood and Cell Research.

He serves as a reviewer for journals such as Cell Stem Cell, Nat Cell Biol, and Blood. He is also an expert reviewer for the National Natural Science Foundation of China's Excellent Youth Fund, DistinguiHed Young Scholars Fund, second-round review expert, Yangtze River Scholars Program reviewer, National Ten Thousand Talents Plan Leading Talent meeting review expert, and Jiangsu Province Climbing Plan meeting review expert.
