Personal Profile
Wu Zhongdao, male, born in April 1962, Professor (2001), Doctoral Supervisor (2003), member of the Communist Party of China. Current workplace: Department of Parasitology, Zhongshan School of Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University.
He graduated from Nanjing Medical University in July 1997 with a doctorate degree. In August 1997, he went to Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences to conduct postdoctoral research. After completing his postdoctoral studies, he stayed at the university as a teacher. From 1992 to 1993, he was a visiting scholar at the Harvard School of Public Health, Harvard University, USA.
He currently serves as the Director of the Key Laboratory of Tropical Disease Control of the Ministry of Education at Sun Yat-sen University, the Director of the National Atomic Energy Agency Nuclear Technology (Insect Sterility) Research and Development Center, the Director of the Guangdong Province Vector-borne Biological Prevention and Control Engineering Technology Research Center, the Vice Chairman of the Medical Parasitology Branch of the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association and the Head of the Education Group, the Chairman of the Guangdong Parasitological Society, the Vice Chairman of the Guangdong Translational Medicine Association, a member of the Teaching Guidance Committee for Medical Humanities Quality of the Ministry of Education, etc.
He served as the Vice Dean (2003 - 2014) and Party Secretary (May 2015 - June 2021) of the Zhongshan School of Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University.
He has been engaged in the prevention and control of important parasitic diseases. In recent years, he has focused on the research of alien biological control technology. His main research directions include: the study of the immune response regulation and its molecular mechanisms of schistosomes and Angiostrongylus cantonensis to hosts; the research of key technologies for the prevention and control of invasive vector organisms.
He has presided over many projects, including the National "973" Project (2009) and the National Key R & D Program Project (2016). In 2020, he obtained a key project of nuclear technology application (5.2 million yuan, project leader) from the National Defense Science, Technology and Industry Administration.
He has published more than 100 papers in journals such as Nature and PNAS. The research he led, "Study on the Gene Expression Profile of Schistosoma japonicum Strains in Mainland China", won the Second Prize of Natural Sciences of Chinese Universities in 2002 and the Third Prize of Scientific and Technological Progress of Guangdong Province in 2003.
He is the co-editor-in-chief of monographs such as "Schistosomiasis Control in China: The Successful Example of Jiangxi Province" (published by Springer). He is the executive vice editor-in-chief of Journal of Tropical Medicine, the deputy editor-in-chief of Chinese Journal of Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases, and a member of the editorial boards of Parasitology Research, Chinese Journal of Prevention and Control of Parasitic Diseases, Chinese Journal of Zoonoses, and Chinese Journal of Tropical Medicine.
He is the chief editor of the national medical college long-term clinical medicine professional planning textbook "Human Parasitology" (People's Health Publishing House, 3rd and 4th edition editors), the first national digital textbook "Human Parasitology", the national medical college clinical laboratory professional planning textbook "Clinical Parasitological Examination" and "Introduction to Basic Medicine" (Peking University Medical Press, 2020). He is also the deputy editor of the national medical college five-year clinical medicine professional planning textbook "Human Parasitology" (People's Health Publishing House, 8th and 9th editions).
He has won the First Prize of Guangdong Higher Education Teaching Achievement three times. "Human Parasitology" has been identified as a demonstration course of ideological and political education in curriculum by the Ministry of Education (2021, course leader).
He has received the titles of Baosteel Outstanding Teacher and Guangdong Provincial Teaching Master. He is a cross-century talent for local disease prevention and control of the former Ministry of Health, a leading medical talent in Guangdong Province, and an expert entitled to special allowances from the State Council.
