Recently, the Guangdong Provincial Association for Science and Technology and the Provincial Department of Science and Technology issued a notice on the naming of the "Guangdong Provincial Science Education Base" (2025-2029), and 333 units were rated as Guangdong Provincial Science Education Base after expert review and publicity.
Profound academic background: the frontier of stem cell and regenerative medicine research
The Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Popular Science Base is built on the key laboratory of stem cells and tissue engineering at Sun Yat-sen University. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party, General Secretary Xi Jinping has attached great importance to popular science work, emphasizing that "scientific popularization should be placed on an equal footing with technological innovation." To promote the dual development of popular science and technological innovation, the team is actively establishing the Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Popular Science Base, using the facilities of the key laboratory of stem cells and tissue engineering, its website, and the "MSC Vanguard" public account as the main platforms for popular science promotion. The laboratory has gathered 27 top research talents, including many national and provincial talent award winners, such as recipients of the National Outstanding Youth Fund. The team has published over 250 papers in internationally renowned journals such as Nature and Cell Stem Cell, and has undertaken more than 200 national and provincial research projects. It has a human stem cell bank, a primate experimental platform, and a GMP-standard stem cell production base, supporting our university's approval of five nationally registered stem cell clinical research institutions, with complete research facilities and systems, providing a solid backing for the popular science work in stem cells and regenerative medicine.

Rich popular science content: a panoramic presentation from basic research to clinical application
The base has a science popularization team composed of more than 10 core members, focusing on transforming the complex knowledge of stem cells and regenerative medicine into easy-to-understand content, from the origin and characteristics of stem cells to the cutting-edge progress of clinical application, showing the charm of this field in an all-round way. The team released more than 80 popular science pushes related to stem cell therapy through the "MSC Wonder" official account, with a total of more than 60,000 views, more than 3,000 followers, and organized a number of offline interactions to gain an in-depth understanding of the audience's popular science needs.
Through the regular "Stem Cell Laboratory Open Day" on the National Science Popularization Day, the summer camp for college students, and the general education course of "Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine", the science popularization is carried out for medical and undergraduate students of the whole university, so that students can experience the scientific research atmosphere and scientific research facilities of the laboratory, understand the latest developments of stem cell research, and stimulate their enthusiasm for participating in stem cell scientific research. In cooperation with the Guangdong Provincial Medical Association, provincial academic lectures such as the "Academic Express" (Gaozhou and Shenzhen) and the Cell Therapy Society were held, attracting more than 2,000 medical workers and researchers from grassroots hospitals. Recently, the team has strengthened popular science, and the popular science account of "Popular Science China" has attracted the attention and messages of fans all over the country as soon as it was launched, and also made the team more aware of the needs of the masses for stem cell science popularization.

At the beginning of the year, the country has approved the first stem cell drug in China, and stem cell therapy has once again become the focus of heated public discussion. The Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Science Popularization Base was awarded the Guangdong Provincial Science Education Base, which not only inspired the team's belief in strengthening the construction of science popularization, but also helped to better inform the public of stem cell science knowledge. In the future, the Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Science Popularization Base will continue to shoulder the important task of disseminating scientific knowledge and improving the scientific quality of the whole people, expand the entity of the science popularization base, enhance the interactive experience, create a comprehensive stem cell science popularization platform, and actively carry out research and science popularization activities for primary and secondary school students and the general public. We believe that the base will not only promote the public's understanding of stem cells and regenerative medicine, dispel the misunderstanding of cell therapy, but also look forward to inspiring more teenagers and college students to devote themselves to stem cell and regenerative medicine scientific research, and inject new vitality into China's scientific and technological development.
